Deciphering Permissions: “Read Phone State and Identity”

, , , , , , ,

I just thought I’d spread this information about smart phone permissions around. I’ve been wondering for the longest what some of these permissions did, and why they needed to do it. The “Read Phone and Identity” permission I found particularly suspicious. It got so bad that I stopped updating my apps and not downloading any new ones because I wasn’t sure what this particular requirement did. This post sums it up pretty nicely I think:

Deciphering Permissions: “Read Phone State and Identity”.

Even after reading this, I still feel like this information could be dangerous if it gets into the wrong hands. Who knows who could be trying to hack your phone? How do I know these ad companies aren’t selling information? But that’s probably just my paranoia acting up….Like the article says, be careful what you download.

GOP Satanists?

, , , , , , , , ,

Long time no post.

The 2012 presidential election draws nigh. And I’ve recently noticed something quite odd. Now, I’m not going to speak directly about any current political issues, but more about the Republican party’s image. More specifically, their party symbol, the elephant.

Has the elephant always had stars on its back, or is this more of a recent thing? In any case, take a look at this image:

Pay special attention to the placement of the stars on it’s back….  Notice anything? They’re upside down. Just like the symbol commonly used by Satanists. Now if you look at the democrat party symbol, the stars are right side up:

Hmmmmm. Very curious, wouldn’t you say? Don’t get me wrong. Maybe the republican symbol is simply trying to be as opposite as possible to their democrat counterpart. But, many republicans claim to be Christians. From what I can gather, quite a few, or at least the prominent ones, lean toward fundamentalism.  So, isn’t it strange that they would overlook such a glaring error? The only thing they’re missing is the ram head.

I feel like I’ve been neglecting my blog lately, and like I only post when I have something to complain about. SO! I’m going to do something positive.

A few days ago I dropped by my local beauty supply store to see if they still sold Nyx products. I hadn’t been in that store for quite some time, I know at least a year. To my delight, they still carried Nyx and had even expanded their display. Not to mention they now carry Ruby Kisses. I haven’t tried out any Ruby Kisses products but I hope to soon. Anyway, on to the purchases!

I only bought 4 items: Nyx Blush in Copper, a single eyeshadow in Sunset Ray, and two Round Lipsticks: Cocoa and Stone.

And here are the swatches:

From Left to Right: Cocoa, Stone, Copper, Sunset Ray

Sorry about the dull lighting. The swatches of the lipstick are actually the best ones, and are truest to color. I haven’t tried these products out for long so I don’t think I can give an accurate review of their quality yet. But I do like them so far.

Have you tried any Nyx products? What do you think?

Untitled, The Terrible Secrets of the Art World

Untitled, The Terrible Secrets of the Art World.

This person hit the nail right on the head! I could not have said it better. Ever. I mean, I suppose if you really stretch your mind, anything could be considered art. But that also means that there can be bad art. Not all things are good, so if all things are art, art is not always good. See?

I’m glad I found this post and I won’t hesitate to throw this in the face of every hipster/shitty-self-proclaimed-artist/rich kid I come across in my major. Those chumps need to be taken down a peg. It wouldn’t be so bad if this kind of attitude was restricted to my postmodernism class, but it isn’t. According to the textbook I’m reading, postmodernism is still going on today. We haven’t moved into anything that can be considered a new era of art. The attitude mentioned in the above link is extremely pervasive, and infests the mindsets of most of the profs and art students I’ve come across so far.

Sad. Especially when I read about how postmodernism is focused on “deskilling”. That basically means turning art something any bozo off the street can do. You don’t need skill or talent. You just throw paint on the ground and call it art. Or do laundry and call it art. Sickening.

I got into the art major to make great artwork. But I don’t feel like I’m learning anything. (I touched on this in a previous post). Anyway, I think I’ll just stick with it to get a degree. That’s all college is good for unless you’re planning on being a doctor/engineer/lawyer.

Infinite Misanthropy – Doc Browns time machine was better than this

Infinite Misanthropy – Doc Browns time machine was better than this.

This is my second time trying to write this friggin’ post. The fucking Press This thing flipped the shit on me and logged me out.

ANYWAY! My macbook has been driving me up the wall! First the hard drive fails and now the Time Machine is fucking up! I had to…

You know what? I can’t ever rewrite this again. I’m so pissed I can’t even see straight. Read the frickin’ above link if you want. I’m done with this tech shit for today/tonight.

Fork in the Road

, , , , , ,

I’m really beginning to question whether I really want to be an art major or not. I don’t know if it’s me or the classes I’m attending but I feel like my love of art is dissipating.

It didn’t start with college however. It’s been a recurring thought for some years now, dating back to my junior year in high school. Back then it wasn’t as bad. I thought, “Once I get to college, maybe I’ll feel like drawing again. Maybe the ideas will start flowing once more of my attention can be dedicated to art”. No dice. If anything, I feel even less like doing anything creative now. I think I’ve hit my stride. All my creativity was used up when I was little I suppose. Now I wish I hadn’t drawn so often back then and saved some of my energy for later years.

I’ve seen and heard advice like, “Just try to take time to draw something every day”. “Draw things you wouldn’t normally draw, get out of your comfort zone”. But I don’t feel like any of that is helping. Drawing/painting/whatever just doesn’t bring the same joy and satisfaction it used to. And now since I’m majoring in the art field, I just have to draw because I’m told to/it’s required for assignments. I’m out of ideas and patience.

The art classes I take don’t help. The students as well as the professors are all such hipsters. They think they’re so “deep” and “philosophical”. There’s just so much emphasis on postmodernist ideals. I’m actually taking a postmodernism art history class, and all of my art classes so far show heavy postmodern influence. Most of my classmates can’t draw to save their lives, and the professors put more emphasis on “concepts” rather than skills. I learned way more by teaching myself to draw than I do in class.

None of these students will ever be great like classical artists. They’ll just be no talent hacks like that Andy Warhol. He got famous off some stupid “concept” that not even art critics could agree on. He couldn’t draw or paint. He just copied popular mainstream images for the most part and acted like it meant something. What a freaking joke. The epitome of a freakin’ hipster creep.

I don’t think I’m cut out to be an artist, but there’s not anywhere else for me to turn either. I’m not interested in anything else. I’m not interested in anything anymore. Which is why I haven’t bothered to change my major. Everything is so boring, art included. Not to mention I’m sure my parents would kill me  for wasting 2 years of college on something I don’t even care about anymore.

My Hair is a Bird, This Product Does Not Exist

, , ,

I’m completely convinced that L’oreal superliner does NOT exist. Every other day, it gets mentioned in some makeup video on YouTube, but I never, EVER see it in a store. I’ve looked in Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens…..I never see it. It’s a conspiracy I tell you!

See this picture?

It’s a capitalist LIE!

(rant over)

If you would be so kind as to tell me if you’ve experienced something similar, I’d appreciate it.

When Will This Trend End?

, , , ,

The Natural Makeup Trend.

UGH! God I hate it so much! There’s loads of articles and videos slathered across the internet, singing praises of natural looking makeup. I just don’t understand it. I have nothing against the natural look on its own, I just hate how it seems to have a cult following. These days, any Youtube video I check out where the makeup is bold and colorful the comments section is full of:

a) You’re so pretty! You shouldn’t wear so much makeup | So only ugly people should wear makeup?

b) wearing all that makeup is bad for your skin | I have seen no conclusive evidence to support this. There are plenty of makeup brands that try to create things that are good for the skin.

c) you’d look better if you had less makeup on | So bold makeup is ugly?

d) wearing all that makeup is deceiving | How? If you’re too dumb to figure out human eyelids aren’t naturally red/purple/black/etc then that’s your problem. Also, foundation and concealer help even out the skin and bring attention to the eye makeup, rather than spots and lines.

It’s so friggin’ stupid!

There’s plenty of variation on the above themes, but it always boils down to one thing: A lot of people seem to hate any kind of eyeshadow that isn’t some shade of brown. Why? What about the people who aren’t trying to look “natural”? If you want to look natural, don’t wear makeup at all! Jeez!

I’m not even talking about something this bold:

OMG! I want this to be my go to look!

A lot of people won’t even go for something like this:

Image or this Image

It’s always, “Black looks too harsh!” or “Bright colors looks so unnatural”.

I especially hate the types who are like,”Bold makeup is only for special occasions”. Stupid, yet again. What’s so wrong with veering from the neutrals? Maybe not everyday, but more than like once every 4-5 months! I guess most people are just too cowardly to be bold. Or maybe they don’t see makeup as an art and therefore feel no urges to experiment and try new things. How boring.
