I’ve never been a big fan of tea. Previously (as in before this month) the only time I ever had hot tea was with TheraFlu mixed in. The TheraFlu–of course–tasted awful and therefore made the tea awful. I guess I just unconsciously assumed all tea tasted gross. Any tea I usually have is Brisk iced tea or Snapple, which happens to be the only brands I can stomach. All other iced teas tasted dreadful in my opinion.
What changed my mind, you may ask? Honestly it’s because my roommate drinks tea. She offered me some once, and I declined (TheraFlu flashbacks). But I started thinking “All tea can’t taste bad. It wouldn’t be so popular if it was all bad”. So I did some research and found out that along with the ones I’ve already heard about (green tea, apple cinnamon tea, and chamomile) there are teas like peppermint, jasmine, black, chai–I always thought chai was strictly a type of coffee. I love peppermint so I was like, I totally have to try that.
All that tea researching really got me fixated on having a cup as soon as possible. So I searched around the kitchen (on a weekend visit home) and all I found was some pretty old chamomile tea. I followed the directions on how to brew it, then added sugar. It didn’t really taste that good with just sugar so I added milk. It tasted better but I still wasn’t used to it.
In any case, I typed all that to say that, as of right now, I’m really liking black chai tea and peppermint tea. I even took pictures!
Yummy!
Tastes like pumpkin pie
I think I’ve perfected my peppermint tea recipe already. I let the bag steep for 10 mintutes (rather than the 3-4 mins that the box suggested) since I prefer a really strong mint/menthol taste. Then I add 4-5 spoonfuls of sugar. So far with the chai, I steep for about 8 mintues, add 5 spoonfuls of sugar and a splash of milk. It’s nice to have for really cold days. My university’s facilities are built on a hilly area so it gets really cold up here.
I wonder what tea I should try next….
